Public Health

College of Social Sciences and Public Policy

Connect with the College

We offer Public Health programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The focus of Public Health is the health of the community. Medical care is not the only determinant of health status. Other determinants include:

  • Income
  • Education
  • Lifestyle
  • Environment
  • Employment
  • Genetics

Some experts argue that the U.S has reached the point where additional spending on health by our society will produce few additional benefits. We need to focus policy away from medical care spending, toward removing disparities in access to care including its expensive costs, improve quality of care and adopt policies that emphasize the social determinants of health status. These determinants and policy choices are addressed in the program.

When you graduate from this program you, as a public health professional will promote:

  • Access to quality health care
  • Improved health behaviors
  • Use of preventative measures
  • Reduction of infectious diseases
  • Reduction of chronic diseases
  • Environmental Health

The Florida State University (FSU) Master of Public Health (MPH) Program has been re-accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for another 7 years, and will go through the re-accreditation process again in 2025.
