Askew School Ranks High in Public Administration Research

A study of program publishing records by two Dutch scholars concluded that the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy ranked third in faculty research productivity among public administration programs throughout the world, an achievement particularly noteworthy in light of the Askew School’s faculty size, smaller than many of the other programs in the study. Steven Van de Walle and Roxanne Van Delft of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam looked at the highest ranked journals in terms of their impacts as well as international journals.

Public Health Program Receives Full Accreditation

Florida State University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program has received accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), putting the program on par with those offered by many of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the U.S.

“Our students can now be confident that they have met the same requirements for an MPH at FSU as they would at any other CEPH-accredited university in the country,” said William Weissert, director of the program in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.

Department of Geography Introduces New Graduate Certificate in GIS

The Department of Geography at FSU has just introduced an Online Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems that focuses on key GIS functions, computer mapping, and satellite images/GPS using popular software to answer a variety of Florida-based applications. The primary focal point of this program is on the basics of GIS and gives knowledge and skills in using key GIS functions and tested on Florida-based applications. In addition, the Certificate reviews the underlying map principles on which much of GIS is built, as well as the importance of satellite-based surveillance.
