Would you like to help citizens, business leaders, and/or government officials create communities that offer better choices for how and where people live and work? Are you thinking about graduate school?
If you answered “Yes” to either or both of these questions, the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway in Urban and Regional Planning is an excellent program for you.
The Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway in Urban and Regional Planning allows academically talented FSU undergraduates to complete a Bachelor’s degree in any major and the Master of Science in Planning (MSP) degree in less time than it would take to complete each degree separately.
Students who are accepted into the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway may take up to 12 credit hours of graduate courses in Urban and Regional Planning. These credits will count toward the completion of both their bachelor’s degree and the Master of Science in Planning (MSP) degree upon their admission to the MSP program. The program thus allows students the opportunity to take a more challenging set of courses and begin their graduate studies early.
Application Process and Admissions Requirements
FSU students must have completed at least 90 credit hours of coursework. Honors Program students may be considered for admission after completing 60 credit hours, while transfer students must have completed at least 24 credit hours at FSU.
- Students must have a grade point average of 3.20 or higher to be admitted to the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway (although there can be some flexibility with this requirement);
- Students must complete URP 3000 Introduction to Urban Planning and Development OR URP4022 Collective Decision Making and earn a grade of B or better in those classes prior to admission into the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway.
Program Requirements
Students in the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway may enroll in up to four graduate courses (12 credit hours). Students may enroll in any graduate course taught by the department, excluding master’s degree core courses, methods courses, capstone courses, independent study courses, or doctoral-level courses until they are admitted to the master’s degree program and meet all prerequisites for enrolling in these courses.
Students should meet with the department’s academic program specialist to make their course selections. The minimum number of total credit hours for the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway is 48.
Students in the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway must earn a grade of B or better for a graduate course to be counted toward the MSP degree upon their admission to the MSP program.
