The Inaugural Dean's Report

This inaugural Dean’s Report signals the college’s new efforts to reach out to alumni and friends so you are better informed about news and events that affect the lives and futures of our students. This update on the College will be sent out at the end of every semester.

Fall is a time of excitement on campus as we welcome new students to our academic programs and ponder the fortunes of the football team. This year, fall has more than the customary buzz. President Barron is providing us all with a shot of new energy and purpose while Coach Fisher seems to have the Noles on track to return the football team to its place among the elite programs in the nation.

We are excited to announce the launching of the new College website, visit us at Additionally, we have expanded into the world of social networking and created a presence on Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn. Join us today!

I am pleased to report that developing leadership skills and fostering professional development programs for our students is a high priority for the college during this academic year. Two courses designed to foster these objectives have been developed: one was taught last summer and the second is being offered now for students in the MS in Applied Economics. These courses and other activities that supplement the regular curriculum will provide the basis for a new Social Science Scholars program that will begin in fall 2011.

It is now easier than ever to stay informed about college programs, news and coming events and I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.

With bests regards,

David W. Rasmussen
