Welcome to the African American Studies program.

African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers three major tracks and a minor. Located in the College of Social Sciences, the program utilizes faculty from several departments within and beyond the College. African American Studies offers students the opportunity to understand American society and the international arena from the unique vantage-point of the African Diaspora, most especially Americans of African descent.

Our program offers an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary approach to the study of ethnicity, identity, human relations, and cultural dynamics. The curriculum provides an intellectually powerful analysis of individual achievements, cultural phenomena and paradigms, institutional behaviors, global trends, and public discourse. The curriculum also focuses on educational and social policy issues. This site offers both information about our program and resource tools to aid individual exploration and research.
