Career Forum, Open Classes Mark "Think Grad School" Week

As part of Florida State University’s campus-wide “Think Graduate School” week, October 13-16, 2014, the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy is offering a forum on careers in public policy and is opening several of its graduate-level classes to undergrads during the week. Both events are designed to help undergrads make decisions about pursuing advanced degrees in the social sciences.

Askew School Professor Takes on Important New Roles

Richard Feiock, the Jerry Collins Eminent Scholar and Augustus B. Turnbull Professor of Public Administration in the Askew School, was recently appointed to the Environmental Protection Agency Board of Scientific Counselors, one of only a handful of social scientists who have served in this role. He was also elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Lecture Series, Professorship Honor Florida Business Leader

The College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University is pleased to announce that, thanks to an action by the state legislature to honor one of Florida’s most successful business leaders, the Department of Economics is sponsoring a new lecture series that will bring prominent scholars and economists to campus for talks on key economic issues.

Political Science Associate Professor Christopher Reenock has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to study the effect of public policy on environmental risk outcomes with an eye to identifying ways to improve governance of environmental policy.

Social Enterprise Competition Makes Initial Awards

A privately funded competition in partnership with Florida State University is providing a valuable boost to 11 innovative business ventures designed to address problems in communities across the U.S. and the world. These projects have been chosen for monetary awards from the Diehl Family Foundation Social Enterprise Competition to help develop their business plans. They will also compete for first-year operational funding to be awarded later this fall.
