To be eligible for the minor in African American Studies: You must satisfy, minimally the requirement for an African American Studies minor concentration (18 hours in approved coursework).
An overall "C" (2.0) average in African American Studies and supporting courses is required of minors. No credit toward minor will be granted for course which a grade of "D" has been received.
Completion of nine (9) hours in African American Studies core courses.
Core Courses (9 hours):
AFA 2000 Introduction to the Afro-American Experience
AFA 3101 Theory and Dynamics of Racism and Oppression or SYD 4700 Race and Minority Group Relations
AFA 3930 Peoples and Culture of Africa or LAH 4723 Race and Class in Colonial Latin America or SOP 3782 Psychology of the African-American
And 9 elective hours including:
Any African or African-American History Course (3 hrs.) as well as any two AFAS Supplementary Courses (6 hrs.)
